Australia — Country Fire Service (CFS) personnel from south-east South Australia have travelled to Kangaroo Island to help fight the bushfires which have destroyed 28,000 hectares.
The south-east crews will join hundreds of extra firefighters from New South Wales and Victoria.
South-east fire prevention officer Phil McDonough says the fires are testing CFS resources and the extra help is timely.
“We’re sending 13 firefighters, they departed at 3:30pm [ACDT] yesterday. They’ll do a couple of night shifts and then return,” he said.
“As far as an incident management team, they’ll be involved in the incident management side of things in managing these fires.”
