Australia — Western Power will contribute $300,000 over the next three yearsto Western Australia’s regional volunteer bushfire brigades.
Western Power’s managing director, Doug Aberle, says fire brigades will beable to apply for $5,000 grants for any additional equipment needed in thelead-up to the bushfire season.
The money is designed to complement the funding already provided by the Fireand Emergency Services Authority.
Mr Aberle says the utility wanted to recognise the excellent work done byvolunteer fire brigades across regional Western Australia and the efforts madeto save infrastructure such as powerlines during a fire.
“We very often find that they have helped save our assets in the case offire and we work very closely with them as well because we’re often approachedto isolate our supplies so that they can fight fires safely,” he said.
