Sundar Community Forest User Group controls forest fire

Nepal — UNISDR-Regional South Asia Wildland Fire Network has started a community-based fire management (CBFiM) training programme for the user group members of Sundar Community Forest situated at Chaukitole (Hetauda-2) in Makawanpur district..

 The Germany government has provided the technical and financial support.

The local users are happy with being selected for the programme.

The training programme has been started from yesterday. 24 people are being trained including 12 women participants.

Mr. Sundar Prasad Sharma from the regional network stated that the community forest will be a model for CBFiM not only in Nepal but also for the region.

Mr. Daniel Kraus from the Global Fire Monitoring Center (GFMC) has come from Germany to give the training for the users and mentioned “technologies are being evolved with increasing incidents of fire”.

The participants of the opening ceremony Mr. Bishwonath Dhakal (vice president of the forest user group committee), Mr. Shiva Prasad Nepal (Assistant Chief District Officer, Makawanpur), Mr. Rishi Ram Tripathi (District Forest officer, Makawanpur), Mr. Arjun K.C. (Acting Regional Forest Officer, Central Region), Ms. Padma Devi Acharya (founder member of the community forest) and Mr. Balaram Adhikari (Community Forest Monitoring, Hetauda Range Post) have also emphasized to take this programme as an oppurtunniy.
