Colorado, USA — A grass fire scorched 1,500 acres in Pueblo County Wednesdayhours after officials announced they had extinguished a smaller grass fire thatforced a brief closure of the southbound lanes of Intersate 25.
Pueblo County sheriff’s spokesman Steve Bryant said the fire was reportedabout 2 p.m. in the Chico Basin Ranch area about 35 miles southeast of ColoradoSprings, near the border of El Paso and Pueblo counties.
No structures were threatened and fire crews were able to contain the blazeat about 6 p.m. The cause remained under investigation.
Earlier, a crews announced they extinguished a grass fire that scorched 40acres near Pueblo and forced a brief closure of southbound lanes of Interstate25.
Pueblo County sheriff’s Lieutenant Bill Brown said the fire was ignited lateTuesday afternoon by sparks from a damaged vehicle that was under tow.
Firefighters from the Rye, West Park and Rural Fire departments responded.
