USA — This year overtwo million acres of forest and BLM land burned, breaking the old record, whichwas set last year.
Idaho also set a new record for acres burned in 2007 and officials with theNational Interagency Fire Center say they expect wildfire seasons to becomeworse. Nationwide 8.3 million acres have burned so far this year.
Scientists testifying before a US Senate Subcommittee, say that climate changewill increase the amount of cheat grass and other invasive weeds that fuelwildfires and that the warming temperatures will continue to feed big fires.
