Training Exercise Escalates Into Large Brush Fire

Cincinnati, OH, USA — At about 3:45 p.m. Saturday, as part of a training exercise, firefighters were burning down an old concession stand in Randy Buck’s Field near the intersection of Springdale and Golf View roads in Springfield Township.

What they didn’t count on was some gusts of winds which caused their fire to spread quickly. Combined with ultra-dry conditions, a large brush fire started.

Several other nearby fire departments had to be called in to get the fire out. Fortunately, no homes or nearby property was damaged.

“Looking back, we probably should not have started the fire today,” said Robert Leininger, chief, Springfield Township Fire Department.
