BOISE, Idaho (AP) – Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter has ordered a mandatory evacuation for residents of about 100 homes in central Idaho because of a fast-moving wildfire driven by high winds that have grounded airtankers.
Fire Spokesman David Olson says the order this afternoon came after the Castle Rock Fire spread over a ridge and reached a south facing slope where fire officials expect it to advance rapidly.
The homes ordered evacuated are on Warm Springs Road about six to eight miles west of the resort area of Ketchum.
Ketchum officials are calling for volunteers to report to city hall.
Olson says residents of more than 200 other homes have also been advised to evacuate.
An evacuation center has been set up in the town of Hailey, about 12 miles south.
