Richmond, USA – Firefighters have controlled a grassfire that forced the evacuation of some homes at the southern corner of Richmondand North Richmond.
The grass fire erupted 3:14 p.m. at York Street and Vernon Avenue, accordingto the Contra Costa Fire District.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived to evacuate at least two homes as northerly windsfanned the fire.
Smoke was heavy in the area of Vernon Avenue and Battery Street, forcingdeputies back from their positions.
Contra Costa, Richmond and Pinole firefighters battled the blaze.
Officials have begun releasing firefighters from the scene.
