New Zealand – Australian and New Zealand fire authorities say they willimprove staff training following a report into a firefighting accident inAustralia.
Eleven New Zealand firefighters were burned when they became trapped in abushfire in Victoria.
The state’s chief fire officer says an investigation has shown equipment failure,a lack of aerial support and poor planning were all to blame.
He says in future, overseas firefighters will be briefed more thoroughly andteamed with local staff.
The New Zealand Rural Fire Service says it will drill its workers on theimportance of establishing escape routes.
