Macedonia — In the last month Macedonia is facing an extremely dry periodand high air temperatures, exceeding 40°C. As a consequence of hot and dryweather and combined with human activities in the forest, the number and extentof forest fires have been increasing to catastrophic levels.
The number of forest fires accounted is more than 100 fires and burnedarea more than 2 500 ha in this period. The damages from these fires areestimated about 1.6 million Euros. Besides employees of the Public Enterprise”Macedonian Forests”, professional firefighters and volunteers have activelyparticipated in fire suppression.
