USA — Fire officials announced a brush fire that started Monday afternoon inthe Kaluakoi area of Molokai is 50% contained. 

Firefighters are dealing with some inaccessible areas where fire continues toburn.  There are no active fire fronts at this time.  Two helicoptershave been dispatched to help ground crews.

Light winds and rain throughout the evening helped keep the fire fromspreading.

Crews first responded at around 3:30 Monday afternoon and the fire keptgrowing.

Ground crews were assisted by three helicopters. And earlier Monday evening,nine fire fighters from Maui arrived to help.

An estimated 3,000 acres were burned.  No injuries were reported and nohomes are in danger.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
