British Columbia, Canada– Three central Oregon fires — one in the sagelands of Crooked River Ranch on Thursday and two weekend fires in the Ponderosapines near Sisters — launched the state into the summer wildfire season abouttwo weeks early, while memories of last year’s record burns remain fresh formany who felt the heat.
“It was terrifying,” said Jacquie Harper of Oxbow.
Flames from a wildfire last July raged into that tiny Snake River town andnearby Pine Creek.
Quick action by fire crews and flame retardant bombers saved both communities.
Harper is hoping not to face a replay this year.
