Lakeland, FL, USA — Smoke from a 35,000-acre wildfire in southern Georgia wafted this way Friday afternoon causing a haze over the city and other parts of the state.
The Sarasota County Fire Department received several calls about the smoke, although the fire was more than 300 miles away.
Dozens of residents from the Tampa Bay area and south reported seeing smoke Friday.
Officials here urged citizens not to call 911 unless they saw flames or knew that something was burning.
“People with respiratory problems should stay inside,” said Sarasota Fire Capt. Tom King.
