Thai-Myanmar bordermeeting focuses on haze solution

Thailand, Myanmar — A solution to thehealth challenging haze topped agenda of the 51st meeting of the Thai-MyanmarBorder Committee (TBC).
Col. Somphong Jaengjamras, commanderof the Royal Thai Army Special Cavalry Unit in this northernmost province, ledthe Thai delegation to the joint meeting across the border in Myanmar’s Tachilekprovince.
Col. Somphong told reporters beforecrossing the border that the meeting would focus on finding a solution to there-emerging haze stemming from forest fires in Thailand and Myanmar territories.
After a brief respite during lastweekend, the air pollution carried by widespread haze resumed early this week.
Thai authorities are coordinating hazesolutions with neighbouring countries, Myanmar and Laos, which are alsoencountering the haze problem.
The commander added that it wasbusiness as usual at the Chiang Rai-Thachilek border crossing and Myanmarauthorities confirmed that the checkpoint in this province will not be closed.
