Saipan, Micronesia — The shifting winds have diminished the haze thatplagued the Marianas region over the weekend.
The Emergency Management Office and the National Weather Service Guam Officesaid yesterday that the winds across the Marianas have shifted just enough topush the smoke from fires in Southeast Asia and the Anatahan away from theregion.
Winds are expected to become stronger tonight and shift toward the northeast. This would prevent any more smoke and gas from reaching the region, said EMOin its advisory yesterday morning.
The CNMI and Guam experienced hazy weekend as wind flow patterns brought to theMarianas region smoke from fires across Southeast Asia, coupled with emissionsfrom Anatahan Volcano.
The Department of Public Health said yesterday the health advisory it issuedover the weekend continues to take effect for the islands of Saipan, Tinian, andRota.
