Bush fire threatens NNPC corporateheadquarters, filling stations

Nigeria — The multi million naira NNPC corporate headquarters, Abuja, was atthe weekend threatened by bush fire fueled by harmattan winds.

Our correspondent reports that three FCT fire fighting engines were deployedto the area to check the fire from spreading to other facilities in the area.

As at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday when a correspondent visited the site, the three,fire fighting engines were struggling to put out the fire which was stillspreading because the vehicles could not easily access the location.

An eye witness said the fire was noticed at about 1 p.m. from a plotovergrown with weeds behind the NNPC office.

The three vehicles deployed to put off the fire had registration nos. CT 355A02, CT 356 A02 and CT 334 A02.

About 20 firemen were seen rolling water hoses from the three trucksstationed at strategic points trying to put out be the fire.

One of the firemen said that they would do their best to put out the firebefore it spreads further to cause damage to the nearby buildings and fillingstations.

Meanwhile, the fire incident is the third in the past two weeks in Abuja, thefirst was the fire outbreak at NEPZA head office on Feb. 2 while the fireincident at the FIRS headquarters took place on February . 9.
