Cape Town, South Africa — The N1 through the Huguenot Tunnel between Paarland Worcester was closed on Wednesday because of veld fires, SABC news reported.

The Du Toits Kloof pass had to be closed as well.

Fire department spokesperson Donald Lackay said fire fighters remained onhand to monitor the situation.

He said there were numerous alternative routes for traffic via Villiersdorp,Bains Kloof Pass or via Wolseley and Wellington.
