Bhutan — The February 2 forest fire in Kurkubi, Bumthanghas destroyed about 1,500 acres of pine wood forest, forest officials estimated.

This was the third forest fire case in Bumthang thiswinter.

A group of forestry patrolling team spotted the firewhen it started, but the fire has quickly spread before they could gather help.

The fire was brought under control only after two dayswhen the villagers from Tang joined the fire fighting team comprised ofvillagers from Kurkubi, forestry officials, police, and civil servants.

The officiating District Forest Officer, Kinga Norbutold Kuensel that a light snowfall also helped a lot to battle the fire.

The cause of the fire is still not know.
