Pahrump, NV, USA — The Forest Service will host a public open house to discuss the proposed $7 million hazardous fuels reduction project on the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area (NRA).
Forest Service staff, along with representatives from the Nevada Division of Forestry, the Clark County Fire Department and the Nevada Fire Safety Council, will be on hand to share information and answer questions, issues or concerns.
Interested parties will learn about the planning efforts currently under way, proposed treatment methods, how residents will be affected and how to get involved.
The Forest Service proposes to implement a 2,500-acre hazardous fuels reduction project to provide long-term wildland fire protection to life and property on the Spring Mountains NRA.
This project would be accomplished by constructing and maintaining fuel breaks and thinning brush within a 300-foot buffer adjacent to private property and Forest Service facilities.
The open house will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Clark County Volunteer Fire Station 79 in Mountain Springs. The fire station is located on the north side of Highway 160 just to the west of Mountain Springs Summit.
This project is funded by the Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act.
