Australia/ New Zealand — Kiwi firefighters are preparing for a heavy day battling the Victoria fires in Australia.

45 New Zealand firefighters have been on the front lines in high country, about 200 kilometres north of Melbourne for the last five days.

More than 270,000 hectares across Victoria have been scorched by the fire and three major fires are still burning in the area.

New Zealand liaison officer Alan Thompson says the fires can be hard to spot in the smokeyhaze.
