Australia — Tasmanian firefighters have taken advantage of a lull in weatherconditions to continue backburning operations and consolidation of containmentlines.
Rain has fallen across some areas, but the regions where it is most needed haveremained dry.
Residents of some of the worst hit areas are assessing the extent of the damagefrom the fire that has not burned out 18,000 hectares.
Fire fighters say the rugged terrain is hampering their efforts.
Active fires are being reported in Scamander, Irishtown and Cornwall.
Fire crews are also attempting to contain a blaze at Kellevie in the state’ssouth, which has so far burned out 8,000 hectares.
