New South Wales, Australia — Rain near Tumut overnight, west of Canberra,has provided welcome relief for authorities fighting a bushfire in nearby pineplantations.
A Rural Fire Services (RFS) spokeswoman says the fire nowremains contained and has not moved in 24 hours.
Sarah Chester says the prospects for the next couple ofdays are good.
“It looks better, it does look better,” shesaid.
“We’ve still got to keep a very good eye on the fire,it will be monitored.
“We’ll still have a lot of firefighters in there.And really we feel much more confident about it.”
