Singapore — Singapore will submit a proposal to ASEAN senior officials meeting in Jakarta on Thursday.

This will be a “framework of action” with proposals in place to beat the haze for good.

The proposal will have to be endorsed by ministers at the ASEAN summit in December before it can be implemented next year.

Speaking to reporters, Environment and Water Resources Minister Yaacob Ibrahim says the respite from the haze does not mean it is time to be complacent.

“I don’t think we should lower our guard. We must continue to be vigilant and we must continue to work with our Indonesian colleagues so we can bring this under control,” says Minister Yaacob Ibrahim.

“I think (we should) take a long-term view and plan ahead. If we can get a plan of action in place, endorse it by the ministers and endorse it at the summit, then by next year, we can put in place some of these systems,” he adds.
