Australia — Rain is hampering efforts to contain a bushfirenear Bathurst, in central western New South Wales.
The fire started after lighting strikes hit the area nearMount Rankin on Wednesday and has burnt over 1,000 hectares of scrub andgrassland around rural properties.
Firefighters have begun back burning, which is expectedto continue for the next 48 hours.
The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is advising residents toremain with their properties in case of an ember attack.
