NEW back-up generators will give ABC radio listeners at Myrtleford and Bright a more reliable service in emergencies.

Federal member for Indi Sophie Mirabella said a $300,000 Federal Government grant would reduce the number of disruptions to ABC local radio transmissions during times of natural disasters or power failures in the North East.

“Those of us who experienced the 2003 bushfire crisis here in the North East know how important it is for local radio transmissions to reach the widest possible audience to transmit important and possibly life-saving information to local residents,” she said.

Mrs Mirabella said the generators were due to be installed before the end of the year and would support all of the ABC’s present and future planned transmission services.
