ENTERPRISE, Ore. — The smoke from fires in the Cascades could cause problems for some residents of Northeastern Oregon with respiratory problems.

State officials say that smoke concentrations in Enterprise, La Grande, Baker City, Pendleton and nearby areas reached the lower level for concern when rating air quality.

Particulate matter in the smoke can be harmful to breathe, especially for children, older adults and those with asthma and other lung or heart conditions.

When the smoke gets to this level, the state recommends sensitive people take precautions, such as limiting their outdoor activity and keeping doors and windows closed whenever possible
