A helicopter that was involved in efforts to extinguish forest fires in the southern Turkish town of Kas, Antalya, crashed on Monday afternoon.

The Kamof-32 chopper of the Forestry General Directorate crashed into Gombe Lake while picking up water needed for firefighting efforts.

The crew members survived the crash.

A one-week long forest fire, which has burned 450 hectares of forest near Kas in the southern Turkish province of Antalya, had been partially brought under control by Friday morning.

Firefighters backed by helicopters have been carrying out further cooling efforts in the area with water.

In mid-July, five policemen were killed and one person was injured when a police surveillance helicopter crashed in the southern Turkish province of Antalya.
