Forestry Minister Osman Pepe denied that there was a lack of equipment to fight forest fires and said the nature and rugged area was making efforts to extinguish the blaze moredifficult.

Mugla, Antalya — One of the remaining forest fires that had been burning in Turkeys Mediterranean region had been brought under control, Turkish Forestry and Environment Minster Osman Pepe said early Wednesday.

The fire close to the town of Milas in the province of Mugla had been contained, though was still buring in places, Pepe said. However, the forest fire in popular holiday destination of Kas in the eastern Mediterranean province of Antalya, which started on Friday, was still burning, he said. So far this year, Turkey has lost 2,533 hectares of forestry land in 449 separate forest fires.
