Tramore Gardaí investigating forest fire

Waterford, Ireland — Tramore Gardaí are still investigating the cause of a forest fire at Ballyscanlon Woods, just outside Fenor. The fire which was tended to by 12 units of the fire brigrade and over 60 fire fighters was reported at 2.30am on Saturdaymorning.

Residents of two of the five houses in the area had to be evacuated as the fire took a grip of surrounding forest causing extensive damage to at least 12 acres of the 100 acre woodedarea.

Superintendent Jerry Lynch, Tramore Gardaí station along with making an appeal for anyone with information relating to the fire to come forward, also made an appeal for the public to be vigilant in their disposal of items such as cigarette ends after such a good spell of weather.
