Smoke billows up from a fire near Emmett Monday morning
The fire started just after 10 a.m. – after a bird landed on a power line near the Little Gem Cycle Park. The line threw off sparks, igniting the dry grass below.
Smoke billowed up near Sand Hollow road, just off Highway 16 for more than an hour.
Crews quickly knocked down the fire – with the assistance of a helicopter from the Bureau of Land Management and ground crews from a number of agencies.
No structures were threatened – though a small number of homes east of Emmett may have lost power for a time.
