The wildfire that swept through Valentine earlier this week damaged a communications tower making fighting the fire that much tougher. The tower just north of town was an important part of communications for the Cherry County Sheriff’s Department.
The tower came down with the intense heat and the department lost their ability to communicate and even page.
The tower was also an important part in transmitting weather information.
Right now, there is a portable tower up in town, but it could be a few months before there can be something more permanent.
