Israel — A huge forest fire broke out near a Kibbutz in the Beit Shemesh area in northern Israel on Thursday, according to local media reports.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Service establishment told Xinhua that the blazing area, near the Mishmar Ha’emek Kibbutz, was about 102 acres (48.6 hectare).

“For the time being, 25 firefighters and four planes have been mobilized to extinguish the fire,” said the spokesman, expecting the fire to be put out before evening.

There was no report of any casualties, he said, adding that residents of the Mishmar Ha’emek Kibbutz had been evacuated.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
