Asadabad, Afghanistan — District and provincial officials have failed to put out the fire erupted in a forest in the Chishin area in Dangam district of the eastern Kunar province two days back.
Director Agriculture, Food and Livestock Haji Muhasil Khan told Pajhwok Afghan News a large number of trees had been burnt while no signs of help from the government were in sight. He said the huge fire might be caused by bushes or dry wood.
He said district and police chiefs and residents of Asmar and Dangam districts were trying to put off the flames which are rapidly spreading. At the same time, investigations had been ordered into the incident.
Muhammadullah, resident of the area, told eruption of forest fire was not new in the area. He warned thousands of trees would burn to ashes if immediate steps were not taken to extinguish the blaze.
