LA RONGE, Sask. — One man is dead and two others injured when a forest firefighting plane crashed just north of La Ronge, Sask.
Saskatchewan Department of Northern Affairs spokesman Scott Boyes says the Convair 580 crashed during a training exercise and went down into the bush about 1.5 kilometres northwest of the provincial forest firefighting centre.
Boyes says a 54-year-old man from La Ronge died from injuries sustained in the crash, and two others were injured and taken to a Saskatoon hospital.
Boyes says the government-owned aircraft carries fire retardant, not water.
Boyes says the weather was fair at the time of the crash.
Saskatchewan Environment Minister John Nilson is en route to La Ronge.
