B.C., Canada — Despite a wet winter, B.C. Forest Protection crews battled 29 forest fires in April alone, all of them started by people.
The Ministry of Forests and Range is reminding people to watch their fires carefully, or not burn at all, since most spring forest fires are started by homeowners and land managers burning yard debris collected over the winter.
And, while spring weather will ultimately determine how bad the summer forest fire season will be, the public has a huge influence on the overall cost of B.C.’s fire season through prevention, said Minster Rich Coleman.
