KUNMING — More than 3,000 army soldiers and armed policemen have joined in a battle against forest fire in Anning City, Yunnan Province, southwest China.

So far, these service people from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and the Chinese People’s Armed Police (PAP) have built up a belt, 50 meters wide and 17 kilometer long, to block off the fire.

On March 29, at about 16:00, a fire started two kilometers away from Wenquan Town, and as of April 3, the burned area reached 466 hectares, threatening the Xishan Scenic Area of Kunming City, the provincial capital.

Two helicopters and about 100 vehicles have been used to fight the forest fire.
