Canada — The forest fire season officially starts next week and crews in northern Ontario are starting preparations for the next seven months.

An official with the Ministry of Natural Resources in Fort Frances says they are planning extensive training for crews and checking out forward attackbases.

The spokesman said it’s difficult to predict how busy MNR fire crews will be this spring and summer.

The short-term forecast suggests temperatures will be a little bit cooler than normal so it doesn’t look like the season should be a bad one.

But fire officials know from experience, conditions can change very quickly.

The beginning of the fire season, which officially starts April 1 also means the Forest Fire Prevention Act will be in effect which means burning during the day isprohibited.
