Springfield, Ill. — Authorities in Springfield say a man was found badly burned in the midst of a grass fire across the street from a firehouse on the city’s south side.
Authorities were called to a field near Fire Station Number Eleven yesterday afternoon after receiving a 9-1-1 call that a grass fire had broken out and that a person might be on fire.
The man was thought to be between 20 and 30 years old, and he suffered burns to more than 90 percent of his body.
He was being treated at Memorial Medical Center.
It was immediately unclear if the man had been trying to fight the fire, or whether he had been in the grass before the fire started.
