New South Wales, Australia — Quick thinking by Parkes Police has resulted in the arrest of a local man now charged with lighting a fire.

The 49 year old Parks man was arrested at 6.10am on Monday in Forbes Street, in the vicinity of the BP All-nighter and later admitted lighting a grass fire.

The man was observed by a police officer walking away from an area in which a grass fire had commenced.

Police tried to put out the fire, without success, and called the Parkes Fire Brigade.

Police then spoke to the man and found a lighter and leather gloves in his possession.

He admitted lighting the fire and was arrested and taken to Parkes Police Station.

He was later transported to Orange for treatment at Bloomfield Hospital.

The man has been charged with intentionally causing a fire and being reckless as to its spread; and setting fire to crown land.
