Australia — Halls Gap tourism operators are planning tours of the Grampians fire ground to entice visitors back to the national park when it is safe.

Tourism operators, government agencies and the Northern Grampians Shire have formed a task force to help Halls Gap tourism recover from the bushfire.

Tourism and Business Association co-chairman Julian Carr says businesses are being forced to let staff go because there are no customers in the town.

He says parts of the national park are likely to be inaccessible for several months, and organised tours could attract curious visitors to see the impact of the bushfire.

“It is quite fascinating to see what bushfires can do in native areas, we will set up tours, we hope that we’ll have government funding for that … but we remain to be informed of that,” he said.
