HOHHOT — A forest fire broke out in a mountain area of north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Wednesday night, so far no casualties have been reported, local government said Thursday.
The fire occurred in the Gaojishan mountain area located in theWunu’er Township of Yakeshi, a county-level city in the Hulun Buir City.
So far, eight sources of fire have been found, which covered anarea of 15 square kilometers. “The situation is severe,” a local official said.
Local government has sent approximately 1,000 forest police officers to put down the fire.
However, due to strong wind in the daytime, fire fighting was very difficult, the local official said, adding that they will use the opportunity of weakened wind after 7:00 p.m. this evening to take a shock action to put down the fire.
The Gaojishan mountain area is covered with thick springwood ofbirch and has a very complicated topography, which adds difficulty.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
