FIJI — Fire fighters are still battling to put out the forest fires in Ba and Lautoka.
Lautoka pine forest manager Peni Were Bauinona said they should be able to douse the blaze later this evening as the weather cools.
He has raised the concern that cane cutters irresponsibly burn cane and leave it unattended which leads to such forest fires.
The manager has also advised farmers to inform authorities if, and to do it at night to reduce the risk of the fire spreading out of control.
The fire started last night with the Tavakubu pine forest in Lautoka suffering the most losses. Other affected areas in Lautoka are Buabua, Paipai, Vakabuli, Vitogo andTaru.
