BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhuanet) — Fire fighters on Sunday halted the spread of a forest fire that had swept across some 800 hectares of woods in Muli County in Sichuan Province.
No casualties have been reported, according to the forest-fire prevention office under the State Forestry Administration.
The fire broke out on May 17 in an area of virgin forest. It spread quickly due to dry weather and strong wind, and affected 800 hectares of forest on the mountains. Some 2,150 policemen and local residents have rushed to the spot for taking fight on fire.
Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu has issued instructions on curbing thefire. The State Forestry Administration has dispatched a working group to the spot for supervising the fire-fighting operations, and organized the transportation of materials and facilities for putting down fire. Enditem
