BOISE –
Boise became the first city in the country to unveil the new bronze statue, dedicated to wildland firefighters. Former Governor Cecil Andrus was on hand for the event, dedicating the statues to past, present and future firefighters.
Boise is also the home of the National interagency Fire Center, which is in charge of dispatching fire crews and monitoring the wildfire season across the country. Mayor Dave Bieter says having the first statue in Boise, is fitting.
“It really belongs with Boise. We really are between the rangelands and the rocky mountains. Geographically it makes sense. In every way it makes sense,” the Mayou said.
The monument sits near the Boise Airport where is will be visible to the thousand of travellers moving through the area.
