Gunung Kenderung forest fire doused by downpour

THE raging fire atop the 1,223 m Gunung Kenderung forest in Grik, which began since early this month, subsided yesterday evening after a 45-mniute downpour. The fire has destroyed some 200ha of trees and vegetation on the hill.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Tajol Rosli Ghazali expressed relief that the fire had finally been put out, as there was fear of it spreading to other parts of the forest reserve.
