The Government has declared a fire danger season in Mt Kenya and Aberdare National Parks and put relevant staff on the alert.
Consequently, all employees of the Department of Forestry currently on leave have been recalled and further leave for any of its staff suspended.
Nyeri District Forest Officer, J M Mburu said the action was taken to enable his department effectively deal with any forest fire in the area.
He also spelt out tough measurers to ensure no fires break out in forests.
Mburu, in a circular copied to all the security agents, has instructed his staff to mobilise farmers adjacent to the forests in the event of a fire.
Nyeri has been hit by a dry spell following prolonged rain failure causing the drying up of the vegetation and rivers.
