Police in South Australia say the number of people missing after the fatal Eyre Peninsula fires has reached 14 as they try to determine how many people were killed in the disaster.
The death toll from the fires stands at nine people, including two children.
Police say reports are still coming in from concerned friends and relatives whose loved ones are missing after the fires.
Police say most of their enquires are positive, but it is slow going as the fire knocked out telephone communication in some areas. Meanwhile, investigations are continuing to confirm whether a 10th person has died.
Prime Minister John Howard has offered his condolences, saying the fires are a terrible reminder of the ever present threat of bushfires and their devastating effect
