The study of wildland fire management through Humboldt State University’s Department of Forestry and Watershed Management recently received hot news – the new curriculum option’s initial accreditation by the Society of American Foresters.

The option serves those seeking careers in managing wildland fires, fire ecology and related fields. Typical courses include fire behavior and suppression, wildland fire use, and fuels management.

The Forestry Department’s long-established academic trails – focusing on resource management, conservation, production and hydrology – already hold SAF accreditation.

The forestry department’s SAF accreditation expires in 2013.
