Fires break out in Berbak National Park

JAMBI, Jambi: Dozens of hot spots were detected by satellite on Saturday in Berbak National Park, here, signifying that areas of the national park were ablaze.

However, no data was available on the scale of the fires.

Frans Tandipau, secretary of the Forest Fire Management Center at Jambi provincial administration, said the center had deployed fire fighters to extinguish the fires. Some 1,000 hectares of the national park was destroyed by fire in the past month. The national park has an area of 162,700 hectares. — JP
