ForestFire causes 5 Million Euro Damage

The Forest Fire at Leuk, Switzerland, caused a 5 Million Euro damage.
A community spokesperson summarized the costs for Fire Fighting, Mop up Operations and Reforestation in total 7.6 mio Swiss Francs.
Arson is considered to be the Fire Cause. The Fire started on 13 August 2003 and burned for ten days. The burned area exceeds 300 ha. Only on 15 September 2003 the fire was fully contained. Since then the area is patroled an carefully watched.
First actions for protection against rockfall and avalanches have already been taken. Projects for reforestation are under discussion.
